Videostream used to work a treat. We use it specifically to handle videos with subtitles.
Lately (Nov 2021), due to web browser updates, Videostream no longer works. The cast button might as well be a background picture. Clicking on it does nothing.
In the beginning, Videostream worked well, flawlessly. Over time, we noticed niggling bugs. Videos sometimes paused to buffer during playback, despite the video being stored locally on hard drive. Then it started taking a long while just to start up Videostream itself. Next thing we knew, it no longer worked as an app in Chrome but required an extra installation. The worst was when it became temperamental and would try to cast, only to succeed 1 out of every 20 cast attempts. The utter frustration of watching a loading screen, only to have it drop out as if nothing had happened. No error message. Nothing. The unresponsive cast button was the last straw. So long Videostream.
Soda player. It’s lightweight and fast. What it lacks in customisation it makes up for by working.
P.S. we checked out wikipedia (July 2022) and it stated “A premium upgrade is offered which adds several non-standard features, but is notably unreliable and the app developers do not provide support for the premium version.” Great.
We purchased the premium version and expected that being “premium” the support would be swift and comprehensive. Guess not.
